Trudy Schandler-Wong Recipient of 2018 Laura N. Dowsett Award

(HONOLULU, HI – May 14, 2018) On May 18, 2018, the Junior League of Honolulu will recognize Trudy Schandler-Wong with its highest honor, the Laura N. Dowsett Award.

Schandler-Wong’s unwavering devotion to the people of Hawaii exemplifies the very best of JLH’s commitment to voluntarism and community leadership.

Her multifaceted contributions include significant leadership and fundraising roles with a wide variety of local non-profit organizations.

These include, but are not limited to, the Friends of the East-West Center, Hawaii Opera Theater, Honolulu Symphony, Family Promise Hawaii, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, American Heart Association, Friends of Lyon Arboretum, Jewish Community Services of Hawaii, Temple Emanu-El, and the Pacific Gateway Center.

In her 30+ years of JLH membership, Schandler-Wong was a tireless Active member and her engagement continues as a Sustaining member. Her efforts ensure meaningful Sustainer activities and she also generously shares her fundraising and organizational expertise with Active members.

JLH is only one of many organizations that have recognized Trudy’s contributions. Among her awards, she has been an East-West Center Outstanding Volunteer, the First Lady’s Volunteer of the Year, and Hawaii Jewish Community Services Volunteer of the Year.

However, Sustainer Representative Avis Takamatsu said “the Laura N. Dowsett Award recognizes a Sustaining member’s entire lifetime of community involvement as it reflects the qualities of leadership developed in the Junior League. It is with great pride that JLH recognizes Trudy Schandler-Wong as 2018 Laura N. Dowsett awardee.”
