Healthy Cooking and Recipe Challenge
The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc.’s Kids in the Kitchen program has delivered messages promoting healthy eating habits to over 200 million people through the media and provided hands-on educational activities to thousands of children. Locally, the Junior League of Honolulu’s (JLH) Kids in the Kitchen Healthy Cooking and Recipe Challenge will help youngsters learn how to make healthy food choices and also encourage an active lifestyle. Target Audience: Grades 6 through 12, approximately 11- to 18 years-old Problem Statement: Educate children about the negative impact of poor nutrition. Desired Outcome: Education and increase awareness about good nutrition so that they are able to make healthier food choices. Curriculum will include nutritional education/interactive cooking sessions:
- Understand USDA food pyramid
- A closer look at SUGAR and CAFFEINE
- A closer look at FATS and SODIUM
- Leading an active lifestyle
